A caldera view costs roughly double. For some trips it is the whole point; for others the money is better spent on experiences. Tell us your budget and we will tell you honestly which way to go.

- Oia or Fira?
- Oia for the postcard and quiet evenings, Fira for convenience, buses and nightlife. Imerovigli sits happily between them.
- Do we need a car?
- In Fira, no. In Akrotiri or the south, yes — or you will spend the trip waiting for buses.
